WHAT IS PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)?
Platelet rich plasma, commonly referred to as “PRP”, is the result of stripping down human blood to separate and extract concentrated platelets. Platelets are the clotting cells of our blood that help the body to heal, regenerate and accelerate tissue repair.
Platelets are naturally extremely rich in the connective tissue growth and healing factors. The body’s first response to tissue injury is to deliver these to the injured area to initiate repair and attract stem cells. Injecting these growth factors into damaged ligaments, tendons, and joints stimulates the natural repair process.
In order to maximize the healing process, the platelets must be concentrated and separated from the red blood cells. The goal of PRP is to maximize the number of platelets while minimizing the number of red blood cells in a solution that is injected into the injured or pained area(s).

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Your blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge. Just like any other blood draw, this blood sample will be taken from your arm. The blood sample will be put in a specialized machine to extract Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from your blood. A few drops of calcium chloride solution are added, tricking the platelets into thinking the body is injured. This releases and activates 8 growth factors that normally help heal wounds. The PRP is then injected into the specified area. Because these areas have been numbed, you will feel little or no discomfort.
